In today's digital landscape, privacy is paramount. When sending emails to your customer list, relying on third-party services can risk your carefully curated list being mishandled. To maintain control and safeguard your data, cPanel offers an integrated mailing list feature using the Mailman application.
While it may not have all the flashy features of dedicated transactional and marketing email services, cPanel's mailing list functionality provides you with complete control over your contacts.
Getting Started
Follow these steps to create a mailing list in cPanel:
- Log in to your cPanel account.
- Scroll down to the Email section.
- Select Mailing Lists.
- Choose the domain or subdomain for the mailing list.
- Enter a new name for your mailing list.
- Protect it with a strong password.
- Decide if the mailing list will be public or private:
- Private: Only the administrator can approve subscriptions, and the mailing list is not displayed in the Mailman interface.
- Public: Subscriptions are open, and the mailing list is visible in the Mailman interface.
- Click on Add Mailing List or Create Mailing List to finalize the process.
Providing an Opt-Out Option
To comply with best practices, it's recommended to offer subscribers an opt-out option. You can create an unsubscribe footer link for your Mailman mailing lists by following these steps:
- Click on Manage next to your mailing list.
- Select the Non-digest options.
- Locate the section that starts with Should Mailman personalize each non-digest delivery?
- Choose one of the following options to add the unsubscribe feature:
- Options and Unsubscribe:

- Passwordless Options and Unsubscribe:
%(user_optionsurl)s?password=%(user_password)s
- One-click Unsubscribe:
%(user_optionsurl)s?unsub=1&unsubconfirm=1
- Passwordless One-click Unsubscribe:

Managing the Admin User for Your Mailing List
To access or change the admin user for a mailing list after its creation, navigate to the Mailing List interface in cPanel:
- Go to cPanel >> Email >> Mailing Lists.
- Scroll to the mailing list you wish to modify.
- Click on Manage and select your desired option.
Note that the system automatically logs you into your Mailing List when you click Manage. If you access the Mailman URL directly or prefer email-based management, use the admin password.
