Pre-requirements
- Access to your cPanel account.
- A name for the new database and a username for the database user.
Overview
The MySQL Database Wizard is the easiest way for new cPanel users to create a MySQL database, set up user accounts, and assign user privileges. This step-by-step guide will walk you through the process.
Steps to Create a MySQL Database Using the MySQL Database Wizard
- Log in to your cPanel account.
- In the Databases section, click on MySQL Database Wizard.
- In the New Database text box, enter a name for your database, then click Next Step.
- In the Username text box, enter a name for the user who will manage the database.
- Enter and confirm the password for the new user in the appropriate text boxes.
- Click Create User.
- Select the privileges you want to assign to the user, or select ALL PRIVILEGES.
- Click Next Step. The system will display a confirmation message that the database and user account were successfully created.
After Completing the Setup
Once you've set up the database and user, you have several options:
- Add another database: Click to restart the MySQL Database Wizard and add more databases.
- Add another MySQL Database User: Click to open the MySQL Databases interface (cPanel >> Home >> Databases >> MySQL Databases) to create additional users and assign them to databases.
- Return to Home: Click to return to the cPanel home interface.
Note:
When you use the MySQL Database Wizard to add a user and database, the system automatically grants the user access to the database. Therefore, you do not need to use the "Add User to Database" feature in the MySQL Databases interface.
Setting Up PostgreSQL Databases Using the PostgreSQL Database Wizard
The PostgreSQL Database Wizard works similarly to the MySQL Database Wizard and helps guide you through the setup of a PostgreSQL database, user accounts, and privileges. Here's how you can create a PostgreSQL database and user:
Steps to Create a PostgreSQL Database
- Log in to your cPanel account.
- In the Databases section, click on PostgreSQL Database Wizard.
- In the New Database text box, enter a name for your database, then click Create Database.
- In the Username text box, enter a name for the user who will manage the database.
- Enter and confirm the password for the new user.
- Click Create User.
- Review the user and database names, then click Submit to assign the user to the database.
After Completing the Setup
After the database and user are successfully set up, you have several options:
- Add another database: Click to restart the PostgreSQL Database Wizard and add more databases.
- Add another PostgreSQL Database User: Click to open the PostgreSQL Databases interface (cPanel >> Home >> Databases >> PostgreSQL Databases) to create additional users and assign them to databases.
- Return to Home: Click to return to the cPanel home interface.
Note:
Like with MySQL, when you use the PostgreSQL Database Wizard to add a user and database, the system automatically grants the user access to the database. There is no need to use the "Add User to Database" feature in the PostgreSQL Databases interface.
The MySQL Database Wizard and PostgreSQL Database Wizard are easy-to-use tools designed for beginners to quickly create databases and manage users in cPanel. By following this guide, you'll be able to set up databases and users efficiently. If you need more advanced configurations, such as additional privileges or user management, you can always revisit the MySQL or PostgreSQL Databases interfaces in cPanel.
