Pre-requirements

  • Access to cPanel or another control panel with Softaculous installed
  • Administrator login credentials
  • A domain name or subdomain for WordPress installation
  • An existing backup location (configured in Softaculous settings)

Steps to Install WordPress and Select a Backup Location

  1. Log in to cPanel

Access your cPanel by visiting https://example_domain.com:2083 and log in with your credentials.

  2. Open Softaculous End-user Panel

Click on the Softaculous icon or link in your cPanel dashboard to open the Softaculous End-user Panel.

  3. Select a Script

On the left side of the Softaculous panel, you will find a list of script categories. Choose a script from these categories or select from the top scripts displayed in the center of the page. In this case, we are installing WordPress, which belongs to the Blogs category.

  4. View Script Details

Once you select WordPress, you will be able to view details such as ratings, reviews, and demo URLs for the script. Click on the Install tab to proceed with the installation.

  5. Fill in Installation Details
    • Protocol: Choose the protocol (e.g., http:// or https://) you want for your WordPress installation.
    • Domain Name: Specify the domain where you want to install WordPress.
    • Directory: If you want WordPress installed in the root of the domain (e.g., http://example_domain.com), leave the In Directory field blank. Otherwise, specify the directory where WordPress should be installed (e.g., blog).
    • Database Name: Enter a name for the new database.
    • Admin Login Details: Provide the admin username, password, and email for the WordPress installation.
    • Language: Select the language you want for the WordPress installation.
  6. Select a Backup Location

To select a backup location, scroll down to the Advanced Options section of the install form. Here, you can select the backup location you previously added through the Softaculous Settings page.

  7. Install WordPress

Once all the details are filled in, click on the Install button to start the installation process. The time it takes will depend on the size of the script and server performance, so please be patient as the installation completes.

  8. Access Your WordPress Installation

After the installation is complete, Softaculous will provide links to access your WordPress site and the admin dashboard. Click on the links to access your newly installed site or the admin homepage.

Gotchas to Avoid

  • Backup Location: Ensure that you have already configured a backup location in Softaculous settings before starting the installation if you want backups to be stored automatically.
  • Correct Directory: Leave the In Directory field blank if you want to install WordPress in the root of your domain. Otherwise, specify a directory.

By following these steps, you can easily install WordPress using Softaculous and select a backup location during the installation process. This ensures that your website will be backed up and protected in case you need to restore it in the future.
