Learn how to access and log in to WHM (Web Host Manager) from your preferred browser using encrypted connections with your IP address or domain name. Understand the difference between cPanel (port 2083) and WHM (port 2087) and the situations that may warrant accessing each interface.

Ever felt the need to manage multiple cPanel accounts under one roof? Or resell cPanel hosting packages to your customers? That's where WebHost Manager (WHM) comes in!

WHM (Web Host Manager) is a powerful tool for managing cPanel web hosting servers, cPanel web hosting accounts, and cPanel-powered websites. Logging in to WHM allows you to configure server settings, manage hosting accounts, and perform various administrative tasks. Understanding how to access and log in to WHM is essential for server administrators and resellers.

This guide, aimed at reseller account owners and root users, will equip you with the knowledge to effortlessly log in to your WHM interface and harness its capabilities.

Difference Between cPanel and WHM:

  • cPanel (port 2083): cPanel is a control panel website owners use to manage their hosting accounts. It provides tools for managing files, databases, email accounts, and other aspects of website hosting. Users access cPanel via port 2083 using URLs like https://example-domain_name.com:2083.

  • WHM (port 2087): WHM is a control panel used by server administrators and resellers to manage the server itself and multiple hosting accounts. It allows for server-level configurations, account creation, and resource allocation. Users access WHM via port 2087 using URLs like https://example-domain_name.com:2087.

Why Use WHM?

Here's why WHM is a valuable asset for those with reseller accounts or root access:

  • Server Administration: Accessing WHM allows you to perform server-level configurations, such as setting up hosting packages, managing DNS zones, and installing software.
  • Reseller Management: If you are a hosting reseller, WHM enables you to create and manage hosting accounts for your clients, allocate resources, and monitor server performance.
  • Centralized Management: WHM allows you to create, manage, and suspend cPanel accounts for your clients or various domains, all from a single interface.
  • Resource Allocation: You can allocate disk space, bandwidth, and other resources to individual cPanel accounts.
  • Advanced Features: WHM unlocks a wider range of server management features, including managing all the DNS records that you have access to, email settings, server security, and more.

How To Log In To WHM:

WHM uses a dedicated port (2087) and a separate login from your cPanel account. Here's how to access your WHM interface:

  1. Open a web browser and navigate to one of the following URLs (replace "123.456.789.101" with your server's IP address and "domain_name.com" with your actual domain name):

    • Using your IP address: https://123.456.789.101:2087 (Recommended for security reasons)
    • Using your domain name: https://domain_name.com:2087
  2. Enter your WHM username and password in the respective fields.

  3. Click "Log in".

If you do not know what the server hostname is, use host command to get the rDNS.

host 123.456.789.10
