cPanel Webmail clients cannot read the PST format.
To import a PST file to a cPanel email account, you need to convert it first to a usable format.
Pre-requisites
Before you initiate this process, keep the following in mind:
- Disk Space: Email importation may consume significant storage.
- Security: Email importation may transfer malware and viruses to your web hosting account.
- Privacy: Using a third-party tool to convert your email format (e.g. .pst) to Roundcube-supported format (MIME .eml and Mbox .mbox) exposes those emails to unauthorized access.
If you have existing emails and want to keep them for record purposes, consider importing them to Google (if you have a Google account), Outlook (if you are a Microsoft user), or others.
Recreate the email using cPanel, and the newly created email addresses should start receiving emails once the MX records are correctly set up.
Another option would be to import the .pst file (if you connect through IMAP to a cPanel email account) using an Outlook client.
Please see how to manage .pst files in Microsoft Outlook for further guidance.
You can still receive all emails in Microsoft Outlook without any complicated setup. cPanel is that sophisticated.
All you need to do is forward emails to your Outlook.
Automatically Configure Your Device
You can use the "Automatically configure my device" option to set up these clients:
- iOS for iPhone/iPad/iPod and MacOS® Mail.app®
- Mozilla Thunderbird® Auto Config
- KDE Kmail Auto Config
- Mail for Windows® 10 Auto Discovery
- Microsoft Outlook 2010® for Windows® Auto Discovery
- Windows Live Mail® IMAP over SSL/TLS, POP3 over SSL/TLS
- Microsoft Outlook 2007® for Windows®
Once done, you can start forwarding all emails to Outlook using either method mentioned above.
If You Must Import
- Visit the Roundcube interface of the account you wish to import to.
- Click the gear icon in the bottom right corner.
- From the folder menu, select "Import Messages".
- Select the file for uploading using the file picker by clicking "Browse".
- Upload mail using files in MIME or Mbox format.
- You can import multiple files if they are compressed into zip archives. Note that email attachments are usually encoded using base64 encoding, which will likely result in a file attachment size about 30 percent larger than the original file.
- With a file selected, click the "OK" button.
Roundcube will begin the upload and import process.
